The ISIS in Somalia group, which is seeking power inside Somalia, has reportedly split into two factions leading to a heavy fighting amongst its members recently. The rift between the group, which is affiliated with the Islamic State group operating in Syria and Iraq, is over who will lead it as the current leader, Abdulkadir Mumin, who has defected from al-Shabaab, is ill.
The leader of ISIS, a former member of the Somali community in Britain, is said to be suffering from diabetes, which has recently made him bedridden. According to local media reports, five ISIS fighters were killed and many more were wounded in the fighting in the mountains of Almisad in Puntland.
ISIS has carried out a number of attacks and assassinations inside Somalia, and most of its fighters are based in the mountainous areas of Puntland. Terrorist groups fighting in Somalia are all mercenaries seeking power and to assert that power to the Somali people and rob them of their property, and have no religious affiliation. The constant clashes between them are a sign that they are looking to outdo each other and loot the Somali people’s rightfully owned wealth.
