Al-Shabaab executes 3 innocent civilians in public

The terminable group al-Shabaab has executed three Somali men in public in Mubaarak, a district in Lower Shabelle. Al-Shabaab accused two of the men of being Federal Government soldiers and the third man as one of the elders who had selected MPs and Senators for 2017 enhanced elections in Mogadishu.

The circumstances under which the elder was executed have baffled locals and some have attributed the reason of the killing as an effort by the blood-suckers to intimidate and instill fear in the hearts of dissidents. The deceased elder was known to denounce the group’s extremist ideologies in public.

The group often targets businesses and individuals who refuse to pay its unlawful and baseless taxes and those who advocate against its brutal and barbaric reign of terror. The accusations are a cover-up and in most cases the decision of whether one is guilty or innocent is reached by an al-Shabaab regional leader.

The extremist group is coming under sustained pressure from the Somali National Army and its foreign allies. That sustained pressure and drone attacks on al-Shabaab bases in Lower Shabelle might have forced the group to resort to executions and control dissent voices.
