At least six Al-Shabaab fighters were killed, and several others injured in a heavy fighting with the Somali National Army in Southern Somalia. Somali Army official Abdirahman Ibrahim Mohamed said the militants tried to launch an attack on an army base in Burdhubo town, in Gedo region, sparking fighting that lasted several hours.
“Somalia National Army killed six terrorists in Burdhubo town and wounded more of them during the fighting. We are safe and there are no casualties on our side,” Muhamed said.
The group also attacked innocent civilians killing two. Burdhubo was calm after soldiers from the National Army and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) expelled the blood-suckers and gained control. The al-Qaida-linked militant group was kicked out of most of major towns and has lost control of several small towns in Somalia.
