Al-Shabaab has abducted elders from Warshubo town located in the outskirt of Haradhere area of Mudug region. The action of the group follows the elders’ rejecting the directive of the terror group to recruit youth its behalf.

The elders have been directed that within four months they enlist the youth into the ranks of the Al-Shabaab or face dire consequences.

A local who requested anonymity has divulged that he has been in contact with the elders who are currently under arrest in Haradhere. The elders were arrested on 1st July, 2017 from Warshubo area.

Al-Shabaab is currently facing a severe military offensive from the Somali government and resorted to forcing the elders to forcefully recruit youth and offer resources in their fight against the Somali government.

Somali National Army and AMISOM forces have in the past carried out successful operations to flush out Al-shabaab terrorists from Somalia.
